Buying and selling Collectibles

June 22, 2011 by admin

Are you new to buying and selling Collectibles?  Well, our site has lots of resources and information to get you started.

The trickiest arena in the buying and selling of collectibles has to be the internet.  Ironically, the internet also provides the widest, most far-reaching, competitive market because it is global.

You already know what makes buying and selling collectibles online tricky.  The cyber world is virtually anonymous, so it can be difficult to know or to verify who is behind the transaction.  The item in question can also be difficult to verify, especially in a world of advanced computer software that has capabilities such as image manipulation of Photoshop.

But what can make buying and selling online the most frustrating and irritating of all is the issue of fees.   There are membership fees, service fees, selling fees, buying fees, fees to withdraw or transfer, direct deposit fees, escrow fees, PayPal fees and on and on.  It sometimes seems that everyone is taking a little piece of me each time I attempt to make an honest transaction online.   And all of this happens before I even pay taxes – remember when this used to be the biggest cut that was taken out of your money?  Well that is no longer the case when it comes to the world-wide web.  The ridiculous number of things that we can get dinged for in trying to transact any sort of business online is something that we all need to be on the lookout for.

What that means is that it is in your best interest to read the Terms and Conditions, Service Agreements, Terms of Service, Frequently Asked Questions and all other assorted fine print on any website that you intend to do any buying and selling of collectible items.

Even though it doesn’t always feel so, we as internet users are in control and in charge of our online experience.  So gather the facts on any site where you want to do business, so that you know all the details upfront.  (I know it is tough and time-consuming especially when a site is not forth-coming with information or doesn’t offer a way to ‘file a ticket’ for specific information.)

A great way to get the skinny on a site is to comb through various forums that refer to them.  The site itself may have a ‘forum’ or ‘water cooler’ area and you might be surprised and enlightened by what you find there.  Help make your experience of buying and selling collectibles as informed, easy and enjoyable as it can possibly be.
